Toy Painting, More Finished Version

Aww, don't you want one? He's just so cute. And diabolical.
Anyway, this is just a more finished version. I tightened up some details and made the shadows stronger, etc.

Toy Painting

This was a toy design for Joe's class last semester. I've started painting it, but it's a work in progress!

Blog Links?

Any artists want me to link to their blog? Let me know.

Gas Station

This one was good enough to get inked. Some of the others were fun, too, but I think this fits the purpose best.

One More

After much discussion, Abby found a picture of a falling apart gas station with many of the qualities and shapes we talked about. This one is based a lot on that image.

Another Dillo Eviron

Here's another dillo environ. It's yet another version of that same dang gas station.

Clint Eastwood, Slightly Colored

Here's my Clint caricature again, this time slightly colored and textured. I also refined the original painting a bit. I think I needed to paint in color in the first place, or at least sooner, or get a different coloring method. I'll try it again shortly (although I still think this one is cool).

Armadillo Environments

I am working with Abby Ash to design the gas station, which is the central location for a our senior film. I had been drawing them with flat roofs and Abby had been giving them A frames. My new favorite is a combination of the two- half flat, half pointy. As for materials (and shape), we're going for a stucco look. I found the flippin coolest abandoned stucco gas station online... That's where I got the buttresses! We'll go over these in the morning. Also, I need to stop blogging after midnight.

Clint Eastwood Painting

So, I started to paint this Clint caricature in black and white with the idea of colorizing it like the videos on Ryan Wood's and Mark Behm's blog (nice work, gentleman). I think I went too far with the values though, and it's being un-easy to color... I'll come back to it shortly, as right now I'm going to sleep.

view out my bedroom window

This was a 5 minute sketch out my window. Tried to get the colors right. Sunset had just faded. I tried to get it first, but it was gone too quick, then all the colors changed.

Atheism

My brother, a fine artist in Columbus, has started a discussion about atheism and religious art. It's open to anyone for comment, so please check it out and share your thoughts!

More Armadillo Designs

So, we ended up going with a more anthropomorphosized design. Chris Welch did the lovely girl dillo (I tweaked this particular image a bit), and the guy was my attempt at her boyfriend. We may end up using a design close to this one! Cool! Anyway, my goal was to make her look even more feminine and cute by contrast with a goofy looking but masculine counterpart. I also wanted him to seem affectionate and likeable.

Old Armadillos

Just for fun, here are some very badly photoshopped together concept sketches for armadillo characters! None of these got used, but it was really fun to create them. The whole pointy face idea was vetoed pretty quick. Too bad, it looks so armadillo-y (although I know it would look really weird in 3d). My favorites were the ones wearing clothes and the one that looks like an upside down taco.

cactus

Here's more of me trying to teach myself to paint. It's a cactus.

Here's an altered environment design for our senior film.

More Paintings

I found a great book by Don Seegmiller about digital character painting in photoshop. The black haired fellow is the result of one of Don's tutorials. It's not my design, but I am proud of it... The top painting is Bruce Willis. He can blow up an airborne helicopter with an SUV. It's also my own design! I'm getting better, I think!

Some Guy Named Dale

His face disturbs me.

Head Painting Experiment

So, I'm trying to teach myself to paint a bit. I used a photo of one of my favorite super villains as reference, and I didn't trace/paint over it or colorpick! Hoorah! Of course, now I have some basic color splats down, and I don't really know how to progres further... Anybody want to give me a hint? Or flat out teach me to paint? My tools are Corel Painter and a tiny wacom pad (though for some reason, I don't think pressure is working...)

International Acclaim

I heard about a site meter from Joe's blog, and now I can see where I have visitors from! Cool! As of right now, I have had visitors from ever continent except Africa and Antarctica. Come on, Africans! Come on, Antarcticans! What's the deal?

Anyway, thanks, everybody, for your comments! As always, critiques are welcome.

Here you can check out my hit map.

Clint Eastwood

Here, I thought I'd try something, at least in some respect, completely different.

Evel Knievel Caricature

This guy deserves a caricature. I watched a documentary on Evel Knievel a while ago... It took about 8 tries before I was satisfied with him. Also, I really hope this hair style comes back. I would look awesome with it. Also the stars and stripes. Heck, I need a motorcycle, too.

Sebastian Kruger Caricature!

Sebastian Kruger is an amazing caricature artist as well as a portrait artist. From his expressive and outgoing nature, I'd guess his workshops are a hoot...

Check out my other caricatures!

Armadillo Design

These armadillo designs were based on one Shay did, which I happened to like a lot. We just needed it to be more teenager looking and have a more functional mouth. I attempted to work that out here. I also messed with colors a bit. Now it's My little Armadillo!

Of course, we decided to go a completely different direction. Too bad.

Environment Designs

Here is a concept environment for our senior film. In retrospect, they are not cartoony enough. Pixar came and looked at our stuff, and they said mine looked like a Coen brothers film... Ah, well. Sounds like a good thing to me.
I was going for more of a color and shape composition than I was going for any details. By the way, that's an abandoned gas station. Or Waffle House.

GOP Presidential Debate Caricatures

I want to push my caricatures more than I have previously, so here are some attempts from the Florida GOP debate, all with varying levels of success. Click for larger image. Collect them all!
